Beauford The Bee

Beauford

It all started a couple days ago while swimming with a friend in the local pool. While we were floating in the water like fishing bobbers, a bee was noticed also floating next to me. Since he was in the stinger zone, my instant reaction was to make waves so he could go into the pool debris catcher. I made wave after wave, watching as his dead bee body was forced to be pushed under the water and be tossed around uncontrollably.
As the bee and I got closer to the trap I realized this little guy was still alive. He was just trying to get out of the water so suddenly a huge amount of guilt and regret came over me. I was drowning a bee!! I instantly went into life guard mode! Dun dun daaa dun! I quickly cupped the bee and surrounding water in my hands (still avoiding the stinger) and flung him out of the pool!! He landed approximately a foot away from the pool, drenched in water, and clinging to his life. This is where our friendship began.
Beauford I called him. Beauford the Bee. He was now my friend, and I was his savior. I couldn't stop thinking I was put on this world for this very moment. I must seize this opportunity to make everything right again! I quickly swam to the side of the pool and began to give Beauford CPR, only with a little less physical contact and alot more blowing from afar. To him I’m sure it was if he was stuck in a horrible nightmare being attacked by a giant wind tunnel monster after being drowned in a giant blue blob. Regardless, It was up to me to make sure my friend flew away safe and sound. Only then would I feel accomplished.
About three minutes after the heroic rescue of Beauford, I realized he was in the middle of the walkway of a busy public pool. So I began to talk to him. Clearly people would think I had an imaginary friend and they wouldn't want to step on him, so they would avoid the area of walkway he was on. It was a blow I was willing to take to my self esteem to save the cute little bee.
As my friend sat by laughing about this entire encounter, I continued to blow on him. His wet wings that were previously soaked to his back popped up. At this point it had been over seven minutes, so the progress he was making wasn't very speedy. After a few more blows he began to clean himself. I vowed I would watch this friend until he was ready for takeoff, ready to fly back into the world with a whole new look on life.
I sat there and watched, and watched, and watched him some more. Trying not to neglect my non animal friend, I decided we could swim to the other side of the pool. About the time it would take us to swim there and back, possibly a minute would pass and he would still be there I thought. I didn't want to miss his majestic take off, so we made it fast. It went something like this....
  * swim swim swim....breath...swim swim swim* Beauuuuuford im bac...!!" Beauford!? Where are you!
He was gone. Gone forever, never to be seen again. I missed it. I missed my opportunity to see my dear friend beauford fly away into peace and harmony. He...was...gone. I had never felt like this previously. I had his life in my hands, I gave him a second chance, and this is how he repaid me?! It took him over 10 minutes to clean himself which I waited for, and he couldn't even wait the extra 30 seconds for me to get back. *Hmmmmph* Clearly that friendship was over, so I cut my losses and went back to swimming.
Soon enough I came upon yet another bee, still alive and in need of saving. Once again I cupped my hands, threw it out of the pool, and then I blew on it two times. *blow...blow* All the while, I was fighting the urge to squish this bee as if he needed to pay for the mistakes of Beauford. I didn't, of course.... but the urge was there. I decided it would be best to left this one to fend for itself.
Unfortunately my days of being the bee savior was short lived. There was just too much hurt, pain, and anger behind my eyes. It was best to pass this torch to the next person and never look back. Until I hear a buzz, then I'll grab the swatter!
